The exam

What NEET actually asks of you

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (UG) is the single entrance route to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and allied medical courses in India. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency and covers Class 11 and Class 12 Physics, Chemistry and Biology, with Biology split across Botany and Zoology.

The paper is 180 questions for 720 marks in three hours — one minute per question, with a mark deducted for every wrong answer. Because the syllabus is finite and heavily factual on the Biology side, the score that separates ranks is rarely built on new content. It is built on recall that holds under time, and on not giving marks back.

So the useful question is not "have I finished the syllabus" but "which chapters do I lose marks in, and why". That is what a mock is for, and it is what the analytics here are pointed at.

All 180 questions are compulsory — the optional Section A / Section B split used in earlier years no longer applies. Candidates with benchmark disabilities are eligible for compensatory time as per the bulletin. Confirm the pattern, the duration and the marking scheme against the official information bulletin for your year before planning around them.

FAQ

NEET preparation questions

Are AceGenie's NEET mock tests in the real exam pattern?

A full mock runs at real paper length and real structure — 180 questions across Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology for 720 marks in three hours, with negative marking applied. Drills, topic tests and sprints are shorter formats meant for daily practice rather than simulation.

Is there a free NEET mock test?

Yes. There is a free plan you can use without entering card details, and it includes full mocks as well as drills and topic tests, with analytics fully available. The current allowances are listed on the pricing page.

Is Biology split into Botany and Zoology?

Yes — the paper carries 45 questions each of Botany and Zoology, 90 in total, which is half the paper. The syllabus tree in the app follows the same split, so you can test either side on its own.

How does AceGenie find my weak chapters?

From your own attempts. Every question you answer feeds a Topic Scorecard that tracks accuracy, time spent and topic-level performance, so the weak-area list is computed from your papers rather than from a form you filled in once.

Do I have to enter the NEET syllabus myself?

No. You pick NEET during onboarding and the official syllabus loads behind it — subjects, chapter tree and topics. You never type a chapter name.

How do I stop losing marks to negative marking?

By finding out where the wrong answers come from. The analytics separate questions you got wrong quickly from questions you got wrong after spending a long time on them — the first is usually a gap in recall, the second is usually a guess you should have skipped, and they need different fixes.

Are the questions AI-generated?

A question bank comes first. Where the bank does not cover a chapter, questions may be generated with AI to match the exam pattern and difficulty, and are checked against the syllabus before being served. AI can make mistakes, so AceGenie is built for practice — verify anything critical against official material.

How many mocks should I take before NEET?

There is no number that is true for everyone. What holds is the loop: take a paper, read the analytics, spend the next few days on the topics that cost you the most marks, then take another and see whether it moved. A paper you analyse is worth more than three you only score.
